FAQ - Cilatil

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cilatil is not the same as Viagra®, which contain sildenafil. Cilatil has tadalafil instead, a medicine from the same family, but it works for a longer time. Cilatil comes in three strengths: 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg. The 5 mg tablet is taken once a day, while the 10 mg and 20 mg tablets are taken only when you need them (on demand), no more than once a day.

Cilatil is not funded under the public health system, so you will need a prescription and will have to purchase it privately. See our Cilatil Rewards loyalty programme for information on how you can save on future packs. Prices may vary between pharmacies.

It varies between individuals, and it is recommended to take it 30 minutes before sexual activities. You don’t have to worry about taking it with food and alcohol. However, drinking alcohol may affect your ability to get an erection so avoid excessive drinking.

Cilatil on-demand dosing (10 mg or 20 mg): Take as needed before anticipated sexual activity, no more than once in a 24-hour period. It may still be effective up to 36 hours after taking the tablet. These strengths are intended for on-demand use, not for continuous daily dosing.

Cilatil once-a-day dosing (5 mg): For those who anticipate frequent use of Cilatil (i.e. at least twice weekly). Your doctor can advise on the appropriateness of once-a-day treatment. When taken once daily, Cilatil allows you to obtain an erection, when sexually stimulated, at any timepoint during the 24 hours of the day. It may take up to 1 week for a full effect on erectile dysfunction.

Do not take once-a-day dosing and on-demand dosing concurrently.

Follow your doctor's instructions when using Cilatil.

YOU MUST NOT take Cilatil if you are taking nitrate medicines often prescribed for angina (chest pain) or heart problems, or guanylate cyclase stimulators like riociguat for pulmonary hypertension. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently being, or have been, treated for angina or other heart conditions. Talk to your GP or pharmacist about any other medications (including over-the-counter medications) you are taking so they can advise whether Cilatil is suitable for you.
